Besides upkeep and maintenance of rental suites, one of my day-to-day objectives is to ensure my tenants are taken care of. In order to do so, I like to research and ask questions so I can get a better understanding of how I can make the transition into a new apartment easier. Some of the responses I receive are pretty typical - lists of delicious restaurants in the neighborhood or coupons for close by shopping centers. What caught my attention, however, is in regards to saving money on interior design, moving costs, and (my favorite) ways to “go green” -energy conservation solutions for reducing environmental pollution and leaving cash in your wallet.

I bought a bunch of magazines on interior design, style, and personal finance. I jotted important issues which I thought you (and other apartment-seekers) would find interesting:

(1) “Eco-friendly” ideas: easy to implement and practical energy saving methods that the everyday urbanite could immediately start putting to use.

(2) Sexing up your interior style: look like a five-star hotel, but on a one-star motel budget. Effective use of your time and money to add more spice to your home’s décor.

(3) Efficiency, usability, and utility: maximizing apartment space for function. How to use your home’s existing layout for practical tasks and storage while maintaining usability for family time or when entertaining guests.

and more.

After my own brainstorm, I hired a team of researchers to really zone in and sift through home and apartment related information. They created graphs, comparison charts, background and practical information, and a plethora of real-life examples which anyone can follow to save time and money and add that “little extra” to their own living quarters.

Then, I went real creative.

I hired an editor and professional writer to present the information in an entertaining, plot driven story based around Julie, our wide-eyed main character who gets relocated to a new city. With limited funds, she is forced to find cost-effective solutions as she transitions into her new apartment, adapts to her
new community, and begins her life in the new city.

I am very excited about the book, not only because it is designed to be useful, practical, full of examples that you can use in your own house, but because it is an entertaining read (and trust me, I have a very short attention span). I’ve always been a fan of “going green,” and even I learned some really neat ways to drive down my monthly utilities bill, and add some color and style that my own friends have commented on when they come over to visit.
